Dear ______,

I am a Japanese woman recently arrived in Canada, and I hope to find work as a sea kayak guide. I have worked as a guide — river rafting, sea kayaking and trekking — for seven years in Japan and Nepal. Now I have come to Canada to experience and work in true wilderness.

Japan has no program of guide certification, so I do not have any paper qualifications at present. However, I plan to take the SKGABC Assistant Overnight Guide 9-day course, along with courses on wilderness first aid and VHF radio operation, as soon as I can this spring.

I graduated from university in 2002 with a degree in botany. I have travelled extensively, often solo, in Patagonia, Alaska, Nepal, India, Pakistan and New Zealand. I am an accomplished camp cook, especially Japanese and Nepalese fare, along with other world cuisine. I love to serve people and can make them happy with good food. My English is at intermediate level; I can get along pretty well on a day-to-day basis and am improving with practice here in British Columbia.

I am flexible to relocate when necessary. For now I am based in Victoria, where I am taking some ISPA courses on sailing — another wonderful way to experience and learn about ocean, tide, climate and wind.

I try hard to live as one with the earth. I believe that guiding people into nature is my life’s work and my highest calling in this world. I am an upbeat, happy person and always do my best to make life good for whoever is around me.

I am in Canada on a working holiday visa, valid until December 2010, and am hoping to stay longer if that works out.

I look forward to hearing from you.
